When is the best time to have kids?
It might seem as Never. But the truth is Anytime.
It might seem as never, if you think in terms of ‘Am I really prepared of being a parent, since a baby is the biggest and ‘most permanent’ responsibility I can take on in life’.
It might seem as Anytime, if you think having a kid is actually a blessing or you just found out that the nature might not want to do its part.
Most people think it is piece of cake to have kids, but my experience was it took me 4 years.
Last weekend I was having a conversation with a friend and she was saying that she wants to have kids, but she realized she might actually postpone (finding all sorts of excuses: prove herself in the new job, get a promotion, adapt to the new country she moved to, the pandemic) as she might be afraid.
It’s perfectly natural to be afraid.
Note, however that there’s always less stress on the other side of a decision. It’s ok to have fear of making a decision. Just notice that there’s also fear when you don’t make a decision. So make a decision!
You might find it useful to use the 10/10/10 rule for tough decisions, created by Suzy Welch.
For each of your options, imagine that you just took action. Then imagine you are in 10 minutes, in 10 months and in 10 years from your decision and write down how you are feeling.
